Jean-Pierre Ouellet aka PeeWee Sends Necronomicon

Posted by

A few days ago, it was reported that French Candadian climber Jean-Pierre Ouellet aka PeeWee was working one of  Rob Pizmen’s longtime desert projects called Necronomicon. It has been confirmed that PeeWee made the first ascent, placing all the gear on lead. As for the grade he had the following to say,

“Most likely 5.14a or 13d. It’s definitely on the harder side for big hands.”

Necronomicon is a 90 foot dead horizontal crack climb located in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. The name comes from the movie Army of Darkness, which is about a man that is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., and has to battle the Army of the Dead (another name for a route in the same area) in order to retrieve the Necronomicon so he can return home. Necronomicon is essentially the book of the dead.

“I guess these names fit the routes pretty well, because they’re all underground.”
