Gear Review: Black Diamond’s New Crag Hoody

Black Diamond’s Crag Hoody is a casual-appearing jacket made for both weekend warriors and the weekday climbing bums getting after it in all kinds of conditions. Constructed with Polartec’s Windblock fabric, it’s a windproof, water-resistant but yet a breathable layer. The cut of the jacket doesn’t restrict movement and allows a little extra room for a mid-layer without being too baggy. The hood is helmet compatible and the draw strings are inside the hood which give the jacket a clean-cut look and also keeps the cord from dangling and flapping around. The more casual aspects of the jacket include the two zippered hand warmer pockets that are low on the jacket (making them hard to use while wearing a harness) and an internal media pocket. Overall, the Crag Hoody is a one-quiver layer for anyone hitting the backcountry hard. It’s built well and for the price you can’t beat it. And it comes with a BD full-commitment guarantee: if you’re not completely psyched on the jacket or it doesn’t hold up, BD will fix, re-stitch or refund your money, no questions asked.
