... It could also be that EU's are much more into sport and the comp's that naturally derive from it .... and US is much more trad focused, much cannot be translated into a comp. I, for one, like it that way. All comps do is gunk up the climbing spots. Climbing is not, and should not be, a competition.

Dear Climberism,

I'm with the YMCA of Greater Manchester, New Hampshire, Climbing Team, and we are holding a Climb-a-thon on February 23rd to raise money for our "Reach Out For Youth Program.” We will have approximately 60 climbers participating!

This annual campaign provides opportunities for youth and families in our community who are in need of financial assistance to become members of the YMCA and participate in YMCA programs. Reach Out for Youth and Families also supports over 700 students who are at-risk of dropping out of school who attend START, an afterschool program for elementary school students at Beech and Wilson Street Schools located in the center city of Manchester, STAY alternative Middle School Program, and our STRIVE program for suspended and expelled students. Although we have been very successful in our endeavors to provide support to all who establish financial need, the disparity grows every year.

We are writing to ask if you would be willing to donate any climbing paraphernalia for prizes, such as magazine copies, posters, key chains, stickers, carabiners, tee-shirts, etc., to our Climb-a-thon. Also, we will be handing out a bigger prize to the participant who gets the most pledges, and were wondering if you were able to assist us with that as well, or if you could suggest any other resources for these. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event go directly to youth and families in our community that need it most.

Donations can be sent to:

YMCA of Greater Manchester - Allard Center
c/o Cyndi Murphy, Adventure Department
116 Goffstown Road
Goffstown, NH 03045

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated! If you would like to speak to me directly, my number is 603-566-8964. Please email, call or text me if you are able to contribute to our event. Thanks much for your consideration! We look forward to sharing the great success of this event with you!

Sincerely,

Cyndi Murphy

Zach
Appreciate the spotlight on the situation but just want to clarify a couple things. One...climbing was banned due to a long-standing regulation by the property owner, PIPC, not negligence or safety issues from climbers. Two...we have already begun organizing under the name Torne Valley Climbers' Coalition. Please follow us on the Powerlinez Facebook page for updates and how anyone can help as we prepare to appeal to the property owners for legal access. The more folks we have on our side the better! Thanks again.
