Catskills Ice Climbing Festival 2010

Climberism will be Ice Climbing with the best of them this weekend at the 2010 Catskills Ice Climbing Festival! This year has been a great year so far for climberism.com. We have attended two Ice Climbing events and the 2010 Catskills Ice Climbing Festival will be our third. We are really looking forward to this one, we have four days of events and four days of climbing. This will make any outdoor enthusiast’s heart melt. Two nights of slide shows, one of whom is a local Vermont climber Matt McCormick. -UPDATE- check out some footage of the weekends work!

Clinics & Events Schedule

Friday, February 19, 2010 Catskill Tour climb at a few of the locations in the Catskills in the same day. Depending on conditions, we will plan to visit and climb at a few areas: Asebestos Wall or Moore’s Bridge, Stoney Clove, and/or the Devil’s Kitchen.Examples of a more involved day can include sarting in Kaaterskill Clove, we’ll climb up one of the multi-pitch ravines, then carry over near Catskill High Peak on the way to the Devil’s Kitchen. We’ll then climb the rest of the day in the Devil’s Kitchen, A full day of activity and adventure. Limited to 8 participants on a 2:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided – One spot left Ice climbing in Newfoundland; Ryan Stefiuk – Slideshow Join Ryan as he talks about his trip to Newfoundland, From classic lines to first ascents, see what awaits your next trip. Held at Rock & Snow, 8pm Saturday, February 20, 2010 Basic Ice Movement – New to ice climbing, never ice climbed before? We will introduce you to the techniques needed to ice climb. Limited to 12 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided. – FULL Steep Ice Techniques – Ice is always steeper than it looks. Learn some handy skills & techniques to help keep you calm and cool when are on that pillar and fearing the burn. Limited to 8 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided. – FULL Northern Revival; Matt McCormick – Slideshow Matt presents a multi-media look at the next generation of New England climbers pushing the limits year round on ice, rock, and mixed terrain. Held at Rock & Snow, 8pm Sunday, February 21, 2010 Intermediate Ice Movement – for those who have climbed some ice before. We will introduce you to the techniques needed to climb effortlessly and efficiently. Limited to 12 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided. – A Few Spots Left Mixed Climbs & Dry Tooling – When the ice runs out, or starts a ways up there… Learn the many different ways to use your tools to climb rock with your tools and crampons. Limited to 8 participant on a 2:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided. – A Few Spots Left Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue – Planning a trip to a glaciated area? Brush up on your glacier travel skills. We’ll cover methods for tying in on a glacier in different party sizes, french techniques for your crampons and ice axe, and hauling systems and crevasse rescue skills just in case someone happens to fall in. FULL Monday, February 22, 2010 Backcountry Day in the Ravines – climb one or more of the multi-pitch ravines in the Catskills. Bushwhack in, climb up, rappel down, buschwhack out.
