Dave has a list of obscene and otherwise annoying nicknames from his degenerate friends. All of them arise from his last name, Crothers, (do your best). He eventually accepted Cruthas, which also created a web of nicknames that would humiliate even the most enduring. Aside from his last name, "Cruthas" likes listening to pop. You can usually find his beat-up-suby radio tuned into a pop station, bumping the latest Taylor Swift. Most his friends hate riding with him and his road raging temper. He also likes Chris Sharma, anything pink, and doesn't have much money in the bank...

A Weekend of Carnage

The weekend’s carnage is slowly getting cleaned up after a packed house during the Will Gadd slide show and drytooling comp during the Mount Washington Valley Ice Fest, Daniel Woods and Francesca Metcalf win the Dark Horse Bouldering Series Comp and Andy Lewis, aka Sketchy Andy, made a slacklining appearance during the Super Bowl halftime show! Mr. D. Woods showing off his [...]

A World of Competitive Climbing Outside the U.S.A

There is an obvious difference between the U.S.A. and the rest of the world when it comes to competitive climbing. North American may harbor some of the strongest and most media spotlighted climbers in the world, but when it comes to competitive climbing, it seriously lacks momentum. Compared to the rest of the world, it doesn’t really seem like we [...]

New Big Route at Lake Willoughby, Vermont

There are not too many people that I can think of with as much dedication — some might even call it an addiction — as Josh Hurst and climbing partner Ryan Brooks. Over a five day period the duo spent 50+ hours on the road dedicated in order to climb the first ascent of Road Warrior, a four pitch M8/NEI [...]

First off, we want to congratulate Jake List and Andrea Charest for killing it by taking first place in the 2nd Annual Smugglers Notch Drytooling Competition. Nathan Kutcher Puts Up Metamorphosis (M10 R)

It comes as no surprise that Nathan Kutcher is back at it in Southern Ontario. Not long after his victory at the Ouray Ice Festival, Kutcher headed to Diamond Lake in Ontario with his sights set on the long standing right leaning crack system that finishes on the large dagger at the top. The impressive 35m (115 ft.) of overhanging runout rock [...]

Nathan Kutcher Takes Ouray’s Ice Climbing Comp by Storm

The Southern Ontario Superstar, Nathan Kutcher, came out of nowhere when he won the 2012 Ouray Ice Festival in Colorado last weekend. When he got the invitation to compete, he started a rigorous training regimen at his home gym (it looks like it could be bigger than the bouldering cave at my local gym) and built, what he is calling, the “death board“ (see [...]

Shit Climbers Say…

This no-intro-needed-video stars Andrew Tower and kicks things off with “I don’t know, I have the strength but it is all coming down to a mental block right now” and continues to spiral from there. I too often find myself making excuses or making absurd remarks to my climbing partners. As climbers, I think we all fall victim to the same occasional ridiculousness.  While I [...]

Stoked 5.11 Whitestone Cliff, CT

There is something about global warming that makes me feel guilty enjoying 50 degree temperatures in January. While most of us take advantage of such prime conditions, in the back of our minds, we are all thinking the same thing… Anyway, global warming or not, it didn’t stop Chris Bridge from plugging and playing on this 5.11 on Whitestone Cliff in Connecticut. “I worked [...]

Northeast Climbers Head West for Ouray Ice Comp

As ice climbing competition go, the Ouray competition in Colorado is likely the biggest in the country. The likes of the best climbers in the nation and even the world travel to the small mountain village. This year, we’re paying close attention to a few climbers competing in the Ouray Ice Climbing Competition: Nathan Kutcher (Ontario), Josh Worley (Vermont), Will Mayo [...]
