Once again the reigns of the strongest boulderers in the country have conquered the walls of MetroRock in Everett, MA. The Dark Horse Bouldering Series lit things up like a freshly struck match last Saturday. Ian Dory, Daniel Woods, Carlo Traversi, Rob D’Anastasio Francesca Metcalf, Angie Payne, Kasia Pietra and many others competed for the high podium but it was Daniel Woods and his mutant strength and Francesca Metcalf’s floating ability that led them to the top.

To say the Dark Horse is just a bouldering competition is like calling Playboy just another magazine. The intensity from the crowd, thought-provoking routes and the ability of top climbers brings together an environment that is almost nostalgic to be a part of. Combining the sight of the mind puzzling problems with the addition of a new custom volume designed to look like the Dark Horse logo, this competition became a visual feast as we watched athletes send over and over. Hearing the crowd’s volume multiply exponentially as climbers completed the hardest of routes, specifically when competitors tackled #4 — it was almost overwhelming and was probably the loudest we’ve ever heard a crowd at any comp. We can’t wait for the series to kick things off this fall to see how they will out-do this year’s amazing show.
