11 Years of Rock Climbing Education for the Youth

Posted by

While some kids this summer are playing in the streets of humid towns and cities, kids around the Northeast will be bunking up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with the Kismet Rock Foundation. The kids will get a weeks worth of rock climbing lessons while developing essential skills for real world activities.¬† The first group of little chaps meet for the first time over the weekend, kicking off what should be a summer week full of learning the ropes on and off the rock. ‚ÄúOur students develop athleticism, analytic skill, good judgment, focus, team awareness, relationship skills, patience, compassion, honesty, humility‚Ķthe list goes on…”

The Kismet Rock Foundation is a non profit started by Mike Jewell in 1999 when he offered a group of kids from New Jersey a weeks worth of technical rock climbing instruction. Since then and after receiving an appearance on “New Hampshire Crossroads” Kismet was formed and offers an educational opportunity for “underprivileged students who might otherwise ‚Äòfall between the cracks‚Äô of their highly stressed public school systems.”
